Optical Fiber Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) Filament, also known as Plastic Optical Fiber (POF), is a type of optical fiber made from PMMA, a transparent thermoplastic. These fibers are fabricated by extrusion and are used to transmit light between the 2 ends of the filament. The light intensity changes inside the POF when a bending in multiple directions is applied. This property makes POFs useful in various applications, including smart digital applications, telecoms, and sensors for monitoring parameters such as temperature, humidity, pressure, velocity and acceleration.
