Your Partner for Research-Grade Materials
Research and development demands precision — the right material, in the right form, at the right purity, when you need it. With over 75 years of experience supplying research institutions worldwide, Goodfellow understands that no two projects are alike.
Whether you need a single gram of a rare compound for exploratory work or a custom-fabricated component for a prototype, we have the depth of range and technical expertise to support every stage of your research.
For customers who need custom product solutions, we can support across all project phases, and if intellectual property and confidentiality concerns are a consideration, we have experience working within research collaboration agreements.

170,000+ Materials, No Minimum Order
Our catalogue spans over 170,000 advanced materials — metals, alloys, ceramics, polymers, composites, and nanomaterials — available in a wide range of forms including foils, films, sheets, rods, wires, powders, crucibles, and single crystals.
There is no minimum order, making us an ideal partner for small-scale exploratory research as well as larger prototype and production runs. Full material data sheets are provided as standard, giving you complete confidence in what you are working with.

Providing You With Peace of Mind - Eliminating Your Risks
Crucial for research and development, Goodfellow is cautious when it comes to ensuring that any materials being sold are fully characterized.
Goodfellow provides full materials data sheets for many materials, with information including details on the natural isotope distribution, the mechanical properties where appropriate, and the physical and thermal properties.
This means more efficient work for you as you know exactly what materials you are getting, and there are no risks of any material underperforming or being unsuitable for use in terms of its mechanical properties.
Integrated Fabrication & Analytical Support for Research Programs
Accelerate research outcomes with integrated fabrication and accredited analytical capabilities across the Goodfellow group.
Research teams requiring precision micro-components, microfluidic prototypes, or custom laser-machined substrates can partner with Goodfellow’s microfabrication division enabling rapid prototyping and high-accuracy fabrication tailored to experimental and pre-commercial development needs.
Analytical testing support for research projects — from spectroscopy and microscopy to mechanical characterization — is available from our ISO 17025-accredited laboratory, providing reliable, traceable data to support material validation, performance benchmarking, and publication-quality results across academic and industrial research programs.

Specialist Laboratory Materials
From polymers to metals to nanoparticles, Goodfellow will have an off-the-shelf or custom solution to suit whatever your material needs.

Optical Materials
Goodfellow offers custom sizes of optical materials such as sapphire and silicon as well as their standard off-the-shelf components.
If process spectroscopic measurements are to be used on chemical mixtures, quartz, and borosilicate glass tubes may be worth considering as they have good transparency to most wavelengths in the visible and ultraviolet.

Chemical Etching of Glass & Electronics
For chemical etching and surface preparation applications, PTFE-coated glass fabric offers outstanding resistance to hydrogen fluoride — making it well suited to research groups working with glass or electronic components where ultra-clean surfaces are essential for subsequent material growth.

Vacuum Applications
For vacuum system applications requiring optical access, we supply quartz windows and custom-fabricated windows from our full optical materials range.
These components are rated for high vacuum environments and maintain excellent optical transparency, supporting in-situ measurement and monitoring inside vacuum chambers.

General Labs
For high-temperature sample preparation, we offer ceramic and refractory metal crucibles capable of operating above 800°C, including under vacuum conditions where minimal outgassing is critical.
We also supply Kapton® film for electrical insulation in vacuum chambers and MACOR® glass-ceramic for applications requiring excellent thermal stability combined with machinability.

Gasket Materials, Heat Exchanger Blocks, and X-Ray
Materials scientists may be interested in the opportunities offered by carbon films, foils and sheets or graphite foils.
These are non-porous, self-lubricating and lightweight materials that offer excellent thermal shock resistance.
Such films, foils and sheets can be used as gasket materials, heat exchanger blocks, and in X-Ray applications as a Highly Oriented Pyrolytic Graphite (HOPG) variant of the material offers outstanding X-Ray and neutron diffraction, making it an ideal sample for testing and set-up.
