Nitronic® 60 Stainless Steel Rod is an austenitic wear- and galling-resistant alloy that machines into durable, dimensionally steady parts for hot or fretting service. Developed as a temperature alloy, it offers oxidation resistance comparable to 309 stainless and general corrosion performance between 304 and 316, with higher yield strength than either in the annealed state. Silicon and manganese build a matrix that resists seizure in self-mated or dissimilar contacts, so fasteners and sliding fits keep working without torn threads or scored mates. Typical uses include valve stems and trim, anti-galling fasteners for frequent assembly, pins and bushings, roller bearings, and pump and marine shafts. The rod form machines cleanly with carbide tooling, holds crisp shoulders and threads, and tolerates cold work to raise strength while remaining austenitic. Engineers specify Nitronic 60 where stainless parts must survive heat and vibration without lubricants or surface coatings. For research and production, it offers a practical path to long-life stainless components that resist galling, retain clamp load, and cut maintenance in corrosive or high-temperature environments.
