Grade 1 Titanium Foil (Light Tight) (UNS R50250) is the highest-purity and most ductile titanium foil in the light-tight series, pairing the outstanding corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of 99.6% pure commercially pure titanium with a guaranteed pinhole-free structure that completely blocks visible and near-visible light transmission. Supplied to ASTM B265 and B265 Chemistry Only, it offers a typical yield strength of 170–240 MPa alongside the highest elongation of any CP titanium grade, making it more compliant and easier to form around complex geometries than higher-strength light-tight foil alternatives. Its self-healing titanium oxide passive film provides reliable protection against seawater, chlorides, and a wide range of aggressive chemical environments where standard stainless or aluminium light-tight foils would be insufficient. Non-magnetic, biocompatible, and weldable by TIG and MIG with inert gas shielding. Typical applications include shielding for light-sensitive detectors in corrosive environments, aperture masks and beam stops in optical and spectroscopic systems, protective enclosures for photoreactive materials in chemical or marine service, and isolation layers in vacuum instruments requiring both optical and chemical integrity. In research, it is a traceable, specification-controlled substrate wherever optical isolation and corrosion resistance must be reliably combined.
