AISI 316 Stainless Steel Coil (UNS S31600) is a molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel in continuous coiled strip form, offering a well-established combination of high tensile strength, good corrosion resistance, and enhanced resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion compared with standard AISI 304. With 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum, it is the standard choice for marine, chemical processing, and pharmaceutical applications where chloride exposure makes 304 inadequate. In the annealed condition it is essentially non-magnetic, with a tensile strength of approximately 515–690 MPa and elongation of 40%, and it work-hardens predictably during cold forming. Coil form supports efficient high-volume production of formed components, strip linings, heat exchanger elements, and continuous precision parts for food-contact and process equipment. In research and pilot production, AISI 316 coil is used for tribological testing, surface treatment evaluation, and forming behaviour studies where the molybdenum-bearing alloy composition is an experimental requirement.
