AISI 310 Stainless Steel Foil (Light Tight)

AISI 310 Stainless Steel Foil (Light Tight) (UNS S31000) is a high-chromium, high-nickel austenitic foil manufactured to provide complete opacity to visible and near-visible radiation, combining the exceptional elevated-temperature performance of the 310 alloy system with stringent light-exclusion characteristics. With 24–26% chromium and 19–22% nickel, it sustains a stable protective oxide scale in continuous service to approximately 1100 °C, while its higher carbon content supports superior creep strength and load-bearing capacity relative to 310S. Room-temperature tensile strength of 617 MPa and elongation of 45% support good formability and weldability by all standard fusion processes. Its thermal stability, chemical resistance, and zero light transmission make it suitable for shielding enclosures, aperture masks, and detector housings in high-temperature analytical and optical systems. In research, it provides a conductive, oxidation-resistant, and light-isolating substrate for spectroscopy, high-temperature photonics, and radiation detection applications where both optical isolation and thermal durability are required.
