AISI 310 Stainless Steel Foil

AISI 310 Stainless Steel Foil (UNS S31000) is a high-chromium, high-nickel austenitic foil engineered for severe elevated-temperature service, offering superior oxidation resistance, creep strength, and structural stability well beyond the capability of standard 18-8 grades. With 24–26% chromium and 19–22% nickel, it forms a durable oxide scale in continuous and cyclic service to ~1100 °C. Room-temperature mechanical properties of 617 MPa tensile strength, 292 MPa yield strength, and 45% elongation support good formability, while its higher carbon content relative to 310S provides improved high-temperature load-bearing capacity. Cold-formable by bending, rolling, and drawing, and weldable by all common fusion processes with appropriate sensitisation awareness. Typical applications include furnace linings, oven baffles, heat-treatment retorts, radiant tube supports, and components in hot acid, ammonia, and sulphur-bearing atmospheres. In research, it serves as a substrate for oxidation kinetics, thermal fatigue, and high-temperature creep studies.
