AISI 304 Stainless Steel Rod

AISI 304 Stainless Steel Rod is a solid austenitic stainless steel bar product offering reliable mechanical performance, good corrosion resistance, and straightforward machinability in a versatile round section format. With a tensile strength of 500–700 MPa, a yield strength of 190–240 MPa, elongation of approximately 40%, and a Brinell hardness of approximately 215 HB, it provides a well-characterised structural material suitable for a broad range of turned, milled, and drilled components. Its 18% chromium–10% nickel composition delivers effective corrosion protection in natural, oxidising, and low-chloride environments, while the austenitic structure remains essentially non-magnetic in the annealed condition and supports reliable joining by all common fusion welding processes. AISI 304 rod is used extensively in chemical and petrochemical plant components, food-processing equipment, automotive assemblies, hygienic hardware, and general fabrication applications requiring a combination of moderate corrosion resistance and proven machinability. In research, it serves as a standard reference material for mechanical testing, corrosion characterisation, electrochemical studies, and the preparation of precision machined test specimens where alloy traceability and consistent cross-sectional properties are essential.
