Al 1200 Aluminum Disk is a commercially pure 1xxx series aluminum disk with a minimum aluminum content of 99.0%, offering a defined planar geometry with consistent surface area and thickness for corrosion testing, electrochemical studies, and industrial sample applications where the slightly higher strength of 1200 relative to 1050 or 1070 is advantageous. With electrical conductivity of ~55–57% IACS and thermal conductivity of ~205 W/m·K, 1200 has the lowest conductivity of the commercially pure 1xxx series disks — a reflection of its higher permitted iron and silicon content, which increases solid-solution electron scattering relative to purer grades. The naturally passivating oxide layer provides a reproducible corrosion-resistant surface, and the higher impurity content gives 1200 slightly improved mechanical properties and wear resistance compared to 1050 at equivalent temper. Al 1200 disks are used as corrosion test coupons in salt-spray, immersion, and electrochemical studies where the alloy's commercial-purity composition is the test variable, as working electrodes in electrochemical cells requiring a standard-grade aluminum surface, and as anodization blanks for industrial oxide coatings where surface uniformity is required but 4N-grade purity is not. The fixed disk geometry supports use as thermal diffusivity specimens and stamped blanks for further forming in prototype and small-batch manufacturing. Al 1200 is a standard reference alloy for commercial-purity aluminum processing research.

Key Features

Al 1200 Aluminum Disk is a commercially pure 1xxx series disk with a minimum aluminum content of 99.0%, offering a defined planar geometry with consistent surface area and thickness — combining the corrosion resistance and formability of the 1xxx series with the greatest mechanical strength of the four 1xxx disk grades:

Electrical & Thermal Conductivity (~55–57% IACS, ~205 W/m·K)

Higher permitted Fe+Si than 1050 or 1070 yields electrical conductivity of ~55–57% IACS and thermal conductivity of ~205 W/m·K — the lowest of the four 1xxx disk grades, reflecting the trade-off between conductivity and mechanical strength in the commercial-purity 1xxx series.

Highest Tensile Strength & Wear Resistance of the 1xxx Disk Grades

Greater Fe+Si content gives 1200 the highest tensile strength and wear resistance of the four 1xxx series disk grades at equivalent temper — reducing deformation and surface damage during coupon preparation, handling, and aggressive test environments.

Defined Planar Geometry for Reproducible Sampling

Fixed circular geometry with controlled surface area and thickness enables coupon-to-coupon reproducibility in electrochemical cells, corrosion testing, and surface analysis.

Naturally Passivating Oxide Layer

The self-limiting Al₂O₃ layer provides a reproducible corrosion-resistant starting surface for electrochemical and immersion testing without pre-treatment.

Cost-Effective Commercial-Purity Grade

Broad availability and cost-effectiveness suit 1200 to high-volume coupon production and industrial testing where 4N-grade purity is not required.

Industrial Applications

Al 1200 Aluminum Disk is used in corrosion testing, electrochemistry, industrial surface treatment, and prototype manufacturing — where the disk geometry's reproducibility and 1200's mechanical robustness are jointly required:

Corrosion Test Coupons
1200's slightly higher strength over 1050 reduces coupon deformation during preparation and mounting, supporting salt-spray, immersion, and cyclic corrosion testing where dimensional consistency is required for statistically comparable results.
Electrochemical Working Electrodes
Defined surface area enables accurate current density calculation in electrochemical studies where a standard commercial-purity aluminum baseline is the experimental requirement.
Industrial Anodization Blanks
Surface uniformity supports standard industrial anodic oxide finishes where batch consistency is required and the cost of higher-purity grades is not justified by the application.
Stamped Blanks for Prototype & Small-Batch Manufacturing
Higher strength than 1050 provides better dimensional retention after stamping, making 1200 disks suitable as blanks for further forming in prototype and small-batch component manufacturing.
Commercial-Purity Aluminum Processing Research
Used as a standard reference coupon in research on commercial-purity aluminum surface treatment, corrosion behavior, and mechanical response to thermomechanical processing.
