Grade: 1200 Composition: Al Form: Coil Material: Aluminum CAS Number: 7429-90-5 Commodity: Metals Purity: 99%
Al 1200 Aluminum Coil is a commercially pure 1xxx series aluminum coil with a minimum aluminum content of 99.0%, supplied in a continuous-feed reel format suited to high-volume roll-to-roll processing. The higher permitted iron and silicon content relative to 1050 gives 1200 slightly greater tensile strength and work-hardening capacity — at the cost of a modest reduction in electrical conductivity (~55–57% IACS) and thermal conductivity (~205 W/m·K) as additional alloying elements enter solid solution and increase electron scattering. The naturally passivating oxide layer provides reliable corrosion resistance, and the alloy's ductility and formability remain excellent across annealed and cold-rolled tempers, supporting continuous slitting, winding, and lamination operations. Al 1200 coil is widely used in HVAC duct facing, insulation jacketing, continuous packaging lamination, and cable shielding wraps where mechanical durability and barrier performance take precedence over maximum conductivity. In the half-hard and hard conditions, it provides the stiffness required for heat exchanger fin stock and structural barrier applications where 1050 would be too soft. The alloy's cost-effectiveness and broad availability make it the standard choice for high-volume industrial coil processing. Al 1200 is used in research on the thermomechanical processing of commercial-purity 1xxx series aluminum alloys.

Key Features

Al 1200 Aluminum Coil is a commercially pure 1xxx series coil with a minimum aluminum content of 99.0%, combining higher tensile strength and work-hardening capacity than 1050 with the formability, corrosion resistance, and continuous-feed geometry of the 1xxx series:

Electrical & Thermal Conductivity (~55–57% IACS, ~205 W/m·K)

Higher permitted Fe+Si content than 1050 increases solid-solution electron scattering, yielding electrical conductivity of ~55–57% IACS and thermal conductivity of ~205 W/m·K — the lowest of the four 1xxx coil grades but still well above structural alloy grades.

Higher Tensile Strength & Work-Hardening Capacity than 1050

Greater Fe+Si content gives 1200 slightly higher tensile strength and more pronounced work-hardening response than 1050 at equivalent temper — providing improved dimensional stability under mechanical load in demanding forming and lamination operations.

Continuous-Feed Reel Format

The coil format enables high-volume continuous processing without joins or batch interruptions.

Naturally Passivating Oxide Layer

The self-limiting Al₂O₃ layer provides reliable corrosion and moisture barrier performance across the full coil length.

Cost-Effective High-Volume Grade

Broad availability and cost-effectiveness make 1200 the default commercial choice for high-volume industrial coil processing where maximum conductivity is not the primary driver.

Industrial Applications

Al 1200 Aluminum Coil is used in high-volume continuous processing across HVAC, packaging, cable shielding, and heat exchanger production — where mechanical durability and barrier performance take precedence over maximum conductivity:

HVAC Duct Facing, Insulation Jacketing & Packaging Lamination
Mechanical durability and barrier performance make 1200 the standard grade for HVAC duct facing, insulation jacketing, and high-volume packaging lamination — where 1200's additional strength over 1050 reduces deformation in handling and installation.
Cable Shielding Wraps
Corrosion resistance and barrier integrity across long coil lengths are the primary requirements, where 1200's higher tensile strength reduces tearing risk in high-speed wrapping operations.
Heat Exchanger Fin Stock
Greater stiffness than 1050 at equivalent temper reduces fin collapse under operating pressure in heat exchanger assemblies.
High-Volume Industrial Coil Processing
Cost-effectiveness and broad availability make 1200 the default commercial-purity choice for industrial coil processing sectors where conductivity requirements are met by the 1xxx series baseline.
Commercial-Purity 1xxx Processing Research
Used as a standard reference alloy in research on thermomechanical processing, work-hardening response, and conductivity of commercial-purity 1xxx series aluminum.
