Al 1050 Aluminum Foil is a commercially pure 1xxx series aluminum foil with a minimum aluminum content of 99.5%, combining high electrical conductivity (~57–59% IACS), thermal conductivity of ~218 W/m·K, and low density (2.71 g/cm³) in a flexible sheet format available across a range of gauges and tempers. The low total alloying element content of 1050 minimizes solid-solution electron scattering, preserving conductivity close to that of pure aluminum while the small additions of iron and silicon provide slightly improved mechanical strength and work-hardening response compared to higher-purity grades. The naturally passivating oxide layer provides corrosion resistance without surface treatment, and the alloy's high ductility enables deep drawing, embossing, and precision cutting without cracking. In the annealed condition, 1050 foil is used in flexible packaging, thermal barrier laminates, and EMI shielding wraps where barrier performance and formability are the primary requirements. Hard and half-hard tempers supply increased tensile strength for capacitor electrode stock, heat exchanger fin material, and cable shielding applications where dimensional stability under mechanical load is needed. Surface quality and anodization response also support use in decorative and functional oxide coating applications. Al 1050 foil is a standard reference material in research on 1xxx series thermomechanical processing and conductivity optimization.

Key Features

Al 1050 Aluminum Foil is a commercially pure 1xxx series foil with a minimum aluminum content of 99.5%, combining high conductivity, formability, and corrosion resistance:

Electrical & Thermal Conductivity (~57–59% IACS, ~218 W/m·K)

Low total Fe+Si content minimises solid-solution electron scattering, yielding electrical conductivity of ~57–59% IACS and thermal conductivity of ~218 W/m·K at a density of 2.71 g/cm³ — higher conductivity than 1200 while retaining the cost-effectiveness of a commercial-grade alloy.

High Ductility

High ductility enables deep drawing, embossing, and precision cutting without cracking — supported by the near-absence of hard second-phase particles that would initiate fracture at thin gauges.

Naturally Passivating Oxide Layer

The self-limiting Al₂O₃ layer provides corrosion and moisture barrier performance without surface treatment across all temper conditions.

Moderate Strengthening from Fe+Si Content

Small Fe+Si additions provide marginally improved mechanical strength and work-hardening response over higher-purity 1xxx grades, without alloy additions that would reduce conductivity.

Anodization Response

Consistent surface quality and anodization response support functional and decorative oxide coating applications where uniform finish across a production batch is required.

Industrial Applications

Al 1050 Aluminum Foil is used across packaging, electronics, thermal management, and surface finishing — where the combination of conductivity, formability, and commercial-purity cost-effectiveness covers the broadest range of standard foil applications:

Flexible Packaging & Thermal Barrier Laminates
Barrier performance and formability make 1050 the standard grade for flexible packaging and thermal barrier laminates where high-purity grades provide no measurable benefit.
Capacitor Electrode Stock & Heat Exchanger Fin Material
Conductivity of ~57–59% IACS and the available temper range support capacitor electrode stock and heat exchanger fin material where ohmic losses and dimensional stability are both requirements.
EMI Shielding & Cable Wrapping
Consistent conductivity, corrosion resistance, and formability support EMI shielding wraps and cable shielding where reliable strip properties are required across a roll.
Functional & Decorative Anodization
Surface quality and anodization response produce uniform oxide finishes for architectural cladding, consumer goods, and functional coating applications across a production batch.
Thermomechanical Processing & Conductivity Research
Al 1050 foil is a standard reference material in 1xxx series research on thermomechanical processing, conductivity optimization, and grain structure evolution.
