Al 1050 Aluminum Disk is a commercially pure 1xxx series aluminum disk with a minimum aluminum content of 99.5%, offering a defined planar geometry with consistent surface area and thickness suited to electrochemical testing, surface science, and corrosion studies. With electrical conductivity of ~57–59% IACS and thermal conductivity of ~218 W/m·K, 1050 is among the most conductive commercially available aluminum alloys — properties maintained by its low total alloying element content, which minimizes electron scattering from solid-solution impurities. The naturally passivating Al₂O₃ layer provides a reproducible, chemically consistent starting surface without pre-treatment, and the alloy's high ductility supports precision stamping and machining to close dimensional tolerances. Al 1050 disks are used as working electrodes in electrochemical cells where defined surface area is required for accurate current density calculation, as corrosion test coupons in immersion and salt-spray studies, and as anodization blanks for functional and decorative oxide coatings where surface uniformity across a batch is critical. The fixed disk geometry and consistent alloy specification also support use as thermal diffusivity specimens and reference coupons in microstructural studies of recrystallization and cold-deformation recovery. Al 1050 has been used as a benchmark alloy in conductivity research investigating the effects of thermomechanical processing on 1xxx series aluminum.

Key Features

Al 1050 Aluminum Disk is a commercially pure 1xxx series disk with a minimum aluminum content of 99.5%, offering a defined planar geometry with consistent surface area and thickness for electrochemical, corrosion, and surface science applications:

Electrical & Thermal Conductivity (~57–59% IACS, ~218 W/m·K)

Electrical conductivity of ~57–59% IACS and thermal conductivity of ~218 W/m·K — among the highest available in a commercial-grade aluminum disk — maintained by the low total Fe+Si content that minimises solid-solution electron scattering.

Defined Planar Geometry & Consistent Surface Area

The disk format provides a fixed circular geometry with a planar face and controlled thickness, enabling coupon-to-coupon reproducibility in surface analysis, electrochemical testing, and corrosion studies where sample geometry is an experimental variable.

Naturally Passivating Oxide Layer

The self-limiting Al₂O₃ layer provides a chemically reproducible starting surface for electrochemical measurement and anodization without pre-treatment — consistent across a batch of disks from the same material lot.

High Ductility & Machinability

High ductility supports precision stamping and machining to close dimensional tolerances, enabling custom disk dimensions for non-standard sample holders and electrochemical cell configurations.

Moderate Strength from Fe+Si Content

Small Fe+Si additions relative to higher-purity grades provide marginally improved mechanical strength and work-hardening response, reducing deformation during coupon preparation and handling.

Industrial Applications

Al 1050 Aluminum Disk is used across electrochemistry, corrosion science, surface analysis, and materials research — where the defined disk geometry and consistent 99.5% Al composition provide a reproducible commercial-purity sample platform:

Electrochemical Working Electrodes
Defined surface area enables accurate current density calculation in corrosion studies, anodization kinetics, and inhibitor performance measurements — where coupon-to-coupon geometry consistency is essential for comparable results across a test series.
Corrosion Test Coupons
Used in salt-spray, immersion, and cyclic corrosion testing where alloy composition and disk geometry must be consistent across a test series for statistically comparable results.
Anodization Blanks for Functional & Decorative Oxide Coatings
1050's surface uniformity and anodization response support standard industrial oxide finishes where batch consistency across a set of disks is required and high-purity grades are not economically justified.
Thermal Diffusivity Specimens
The disk geometry and known alloy specification support direct comparison of thermal properties across conditions in thermal diffusivity and heat capacity measurement studies.
Recrystallization & Microstructural Research
Used as a standard benchmark for 1xxx series microstructural studies examining the effects of cold deformation, annealing, and recrystallization on grain structure and mechanical properties.
