    Product Summary of Niobium

Niobium was first reported on in 1801 as a new element with similar properties to tantalum. However, it was over one hundred years later that it was first reported as being used in its commercial application. This metal is mostly used as an alloying element in super conducting alloys. When used as an alloying element along with titanium and tin, it finds use in the superconducting magnets of MRI scanners. Other applications of niobium include its use in welding, nuclear industries, electronics, optics, numismatics and jewellery. In the last two applications, niobium's low toxicity and ability to be coloured by anodising are particular advantages.

    Characteristics of Niobium include:

    • Low toxicity
