Tapping into new opportunities in fusion energy, battery technology and specialist R&D projects has helped a Huntingdon-based specialist metals and material supplier boost sales by recording annual double-digit growth since receiving private equity investment. Goodfellow, which employs more than 100 people at its Ermine Business Park facility, has overcome global supply chain issues and rising energy prices to post a £4 million rise in turnover in the first full two years following its acquisition by Battery Ventures.
Titanium dioxide is a naturally occurring oxide of the metal, titanium. It is chemical compound, with the formula of one titanium atom and two oxygen atoms, usually white in appearance and is insoluble in water.1 It is a bewitching compound with the unique ability to reflect and scatter light, making it a popular ingredient for a wide range of applications, including in cosmetics – such as theatre blood, paints and food products.
This month we take a look at the new contender entering the arena for renewable fuel sources, the most water-repellent surface ever created, a 3D printed rocket engine nozzle for deep space, tougher ceramics with extra electrons and a scientific article on a novel environmentally friendly acid-based catalyst with graphene oxide foundations.
In the ever-advancing world of bioelectronics and medical devices, advanced materials are vital to improving quality of life. Platinum iridium alloy is a marvellous material, with exceptional properties, making it ideal for use in electronics within the medical field. Goodfellow’s wires, including platinum iridium wires, are at the forefront of revolutionary – and often life-changing - medical technologies.
The fascinating world of folding sheet metal to make stronger trains and miniaturizing children's toys.
Goodfellow’s own Dr Aphrodite Tomou contributes to Intellegens' newly released white paper ‘Trustworthy AI in the materials and chemical industries’, industrial origami could be the key to greener trains, the UK has rejoined the EU’s Horizon research programme
The properties of nickel and iron and the products and services Goodfellow offer around these materials.
Congratulations go out to our partners at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for successfully repeating their fusion ignition breakthrough earlier this month and this leads to our first story of a UK start-up inspired to construct a fusion rocket aimed to cut space travel time in half.
