Product Summary of Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE)

One of a family of polymers referred to collectively as a polyolefin. These polymers comprise C and H atoms and are distinguished by their low density (will float on water). The so called low density version of polyethylene was the first to be produced by ICI in 1933.

Characteristics of Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) include:

    • Low density
    • Excellent resistance to acids, alcohols, bases and esters
    • Excellent electrical properties
    • Good resistance to aldehydes, ketones and vegetable oils (minor attack)
    • Limited resistance to aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, mineral oils, and oxidising agents (moderate attack, suitable for short-term use only)
    • Poor chemical resistance, and not recommended for use with halogenated hydrocarbons.
