Vacuum-Sintered Silicon Carbide (SiC) Granules are a high-purity ceramic material produced by solid-state sintering under vacuum conditions, resulting in a dense, low-porosity microstructure with exceptional hardness (Mohs ~9.5), high flexural strength, and outstanding chemical inertness across a broad pH range. The vacuum sintering process minimises oxide inclusions and residual binder phases, yielding granules with superior mechanical integrity compared to pressure-sintered or reaction-bonded SiC alternatives. The material retains its mechanical and thermal properties up to approximately 1600°C and exhibits excellent resistance to oxidation, thermal shock, and wear. Thermal conductivity is significantly higher than that of alumina or zirconia ceramics, enabling efficient heat dissipation in demanding applications. Primary uses include abrasive and lapping media, catalyst support granules in high-temperature reactors, feedstock for thermal spray and cold spray coating processes, and aggregate in refractory composite formulations. In research settings, the granules serve as model hard particles in tribology and wear studies, as packing material in high-temperature gas-phase chemistry investigations, and as precursor feedstock for silicon carbide thin-film and coating development programmes.
