Grade 12 Titanium Foil (UNS R53400) is a nickel- and molybdenum-alloyed titanium, offering superior mechanical strength and enhanced corrosion resistance compared to commercially pure titanium grades. With a tensile strength of 483 MPa and a yield strength of 345 MPa, it combines a high strength-to-weight ratio with excellent resistance to general corrosion, crevice corrosion, and stress-assisted corrosion—particularly in chloride-containing and mildly reducing environments. Supplied to ASTM B265, it is the foil material of choice for demanding industrial and marine applications including heat-exchanger components, chemical process equipment, and seawater-exposed structural parts. Its full weldability via GTAW/TIG processes and compatibility with standard forming techniques make it highly versatile in fabrication. In research and advanced engineering, Grade 12 foil supports investigations into corrosion mechanics under aggressive chemical conditions, offering a reproducible, specification-controlled substrate where strength and environmental durability must be maintained simultaneously.

Key Features

Grade 12 Titanium possesses a combination of material characteristics that make it particularly well suited for demanding industrial, marine, and research applications where superior strength and enhanced corrosion resistance must be maintained simultaneously:

Superior Mechanical Strength (483 MPa tensile / 345 MPa yield)

The nickel and molybdenum alloying additions give Grade 12 Titanium superior tensile and yield strength over commercially pure titanium grades, with a tensile strength of 483 MPa and yield strength of 345 MPa. This high strength-to-weight ratio makes it the foil material of choice for structurally demanding industrial and marine applications.

Enhanced Resistance to Crevice, General & Stress-Assisted Corrosion

Grade 12 Titanium offers excellent resistance to general corrosion, crevice corrosion, and stress-assisted corrosion — particularly in chloride-containing and mildly reducing environments — surpassing the performance of commercially pure titanium grades in the most aggressive service conditions.

Nickel & Molybdenum Alloying for Combined Performance

The addition of nickel and molybdenum to the titanium matrix simultaneously improves mechanical strength and stabilises corrosion resistance, delivering a material that outperforms both CP titanium grades in strength and standard alloyed grades in corrosion performance across a broad range of aggressive environments.

Full Weldability via GTAW/TIG (ASTM B265)

Supplied to ASTM B265, Grade 12 Titanium is fully weldable by GTAW/TIG processes and is compatible with standard forming techniques, making it highly versatile in fabrication of heat exchanger components, chemical process equipment, and seawater-exposed structural parts.

Reproducible Research Substrate

Grade 12 foil provides a specification-controlled substrate for investigations into corrosion mechanics under aggressive chemical conditions, where strength and environmental durability must be maintained simultaneously — supporting advanced engineering research where standard CP titanium substrates are mechanically or chemically insufficient.

Industrial Applications

Grade 12 Titanium is used across industrial, marine, and research sectors where the combination of superior mechanical strength and enhanced corrosion resistance over commercially pure titanium grades is required:

Heat Exchanger Components
Grade 12 Titanium is the foil material of choice for heat exchanger tubing and plate components in aggressive chemical and marine service, where its resistance to crevice corrosion and stress-assisted corrosion in chloride media ensures reliable long-term performance under combined thermal and mechanical loading.
Chemical Process Equipment
Used in vessels, reactors, and process equipment handling chloride-containing and mildly reducing chemical streams, where Grade 12's alloyed composition delivers corrosion resistance and structural strength beyond the capability of commercially pure titanium grades.
Marine & Seawater-Exposed Structures
Employed in seawater-exposed structural parts and offshore installations, where resistance to general and crevice corrosion under marine conditions combined with high strength-to-weight ratio reduces material weight while extending service life.
Corrosion Mechanics Research
Used in advanced engineering research as a specification-controlled substrate for investigations into corrosion mechanics under aggressive chemical conditions, providing reproducibility across experimental programmes where both strength and environmental durability must be maintained simultaneously.
Fabricated Corrosion-Resistant Assemblies
Full weldability via GTAW/TIG and compatibility with standard forming techniques allow Grade 12 Titanium to be fabricated into complex corrosion-resistant assemblies — piping systems, structural brackets, and process plant components — without compromising the alloy's mechanical or corrosion performance at weld joints.
