2014A Aluminum Foil/Sheet

2014A Aluminum Foil is a high-strength copper-bearing heat-treatable aluminum alloy in thin flat sheet form, containing 3.9-5.0% copper alongside silicon and manganese additions, available in As Rolled and T4 tempers. The As Rolled condition at thinner gauges provides ductility for forming and handling operations; the T4 temper at thicker gauges is solution heat treated and naturally aged, providing a useful balance of formability and moderate strength with tensile strength of 410 MPa and 12% elongation, supporting stretch forming and subsequent artificial ageing to higher strength if required. Excellent machinability and the ability to accept hard anodising and electroplating are the defining practical advantages of 2014A over many competing high-strength alloys. Natural corrosion resistance is relatively poor, and a protective coating is recommended for service in corrosive environments. In industry, 2014A foil is used for precision aerospace sheet metal components, medical device flat parts, and defence hardware where high strength and excellent machinability in a thin format are the primary selection criteria. In research, it serves as a substrate for age hardening kinetics studies, fatigue characterization of thin high-copper aluminum alloy sheet, and surface treatment evaluation including hard anodising and electroplated coatings.
