Product Summary of Metallised Polyimide (MPI)

Most versions of polyimide are relatively  pure and as such it is a very useful material when used in a vacuum. One such environment where Metallised Polyimide (MPI) is extensively used is that of space. In this thermally challenging environment a spacecraft or satellite can see temperatures ranging from -125°C to +150°C, where temperature fluctuations can occur in a relatively short space of time. Not only can metallised PI films withstand such rapid changes of temperature, but when a metal coating is applied it can work as an extremely efficient radiation barrier.
