Alumina, also known as aluminium oxide is an electrically insulating material with relatively high thermal conductivity for a ceramic. It could be argued as being one of the most cost effective of all ceramic materials and as a result is one of the most widely used. Its combination of high thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion imparts good thermal shock resistance.
