2014A Aluminum Disk

2014A Aluminum Disk is a high-strength copper-bearing heat-treatable aluminum alloy in precision circular geometry, containing 3.9-5.0% copper with silicon and manganese additions, available in As Rolled and T4 tempers. The As Rolled condition at thinner gauges provides ductility for forming and machining operations; the T4 temper at thicker gauges is solution heat treated and naturally aged, delivering tensile strength of 410 MPa and 270 MPa yield strength with 12% elongation, well suited to precision machining, stretch forming, and subsequent artificial ageing to peak strength. The alloy accepts hard anodising and electroplating, extending the range of functional surface finishes available to finished components. Natural corrosion resistance is poor, and protective coating is recommended for corrosive service environments. In industry, 2014A disks are used as blanks for precision machining of aerospace actuator components, medical device circular parts, and defence precision components where high strength combined with excellent machinability is the selection basis. In research, they serve as specimens for machinability assessment, precipitation hardening kinetics characterization, fatigue crack initiation studies on thin high-copper alloy sheet, and surface treatment evaluation.
