6013 Aluminum Foil is a medium-strength aluminum-magnesium-silicon-copper alloy in thin flat sheet form, developed specifically for aerospace applications, available in the As Rolled temper and combining superior corrosion resistance with good stretch forming characteristics and a yield strength approximately 12% higher than Alclad 2024. Its composition makes it virtually immune to stress corrosion cracking and exfoliation, distinguishing it from 2xxx series alloys that require protective cladding or organic coatings to achieve comparable corrosion performance. The As Rolled condition provides the formability needed for stretch forming operations, after which components can be aged to higher strength without re-annealing, eliminating an intermediate heat treatment step and reducing manufacturing cycle time. In industry, 6013 foil is used for aerospace engine cowlings, fuselage panel skins, primary aircraft structure sheet components, and highly stressed sheet parts in commercial and military aircraft, as well as structural sheet in weight-sensitive applications where the superior corrosion resistance relative to 2xxx grades removes the need for cladding. In research, it is used for stress corrosion cracking resistance evaluation, age hardening kinetics studies in the as-formed condition, forming behavior characterization, and comparative fatigue performance studies against Alclad 2024 in aerospace sheet applications.
