2014A Aluminum Rod is a high-strength copper-bearing heat-treatable aluminum alloy in extruded and drawn bar form, containing 3.9-5.0% copper with silicon and manganese additions, available in As Drawn condition for the smallest diameter and the T6511 temper across the broader diameter range. The T6511 temper, solution heat treated, stress-relieved by controlled stretching, and artificially aged, delivers the full peak strength of the alloy: tensile strength of 460 MPa, yield strength of 415 MPa, and Brinell hardness of 140 HBW. Excellent machinability in the T6511 condition, combined with the ability to accept hard anodising and electroplating, makes it well suited to producing precision turned and milled components where dimensional accuracy, surface finish quality, and structural performance are all required. Natural corrosion resistance is relatively poor, and finished components should receive a protective coating for service in corrosive environments. In industry, 2014A rod is used for precision aerospace machined components, medical device parts, and defence hardware where high strength and machining efficiency reduce component cost. In research, it is used for machinability optimisation studies, age hardening and precipitation kinetics investigations, fatigue characterization in the T6511 condition, and as feedstock for high-strength aluminum alloy deformation and microstructure studies.
