What does your day-to-day job involve?
Answering internal and external technical queries, reviewing the product range with the technical team, keeping on top of industry trends to get inspiration for new product introductions. Materials are my passion! Innovation is my lead to the future!
What would you say is your favourite material?
My favourite material is Carbon. Carbon is one of the most abundant elements on earth and in our body. Carbon exists in living and non-living systems. It is stabilised in different allotropes like Diamond, Graphene, Multi Wall Carbon Nanotubes, Graphite, and Fullerenes - each have unique properties! While at the same time, Carbon can form inorganic, organometallic and organic compounds like polymers. The applications of carbon are numerous and with high importance for all sectors, most importantly for our existence!
Jose Marti, Cuban Poet, said “All is beautiful and unceasing, all is music and reason, and all, like diamond, is carbon first, then light.”
What do you like to do outside of work?
Meeting friends, travelling, and reading books while listening to my favourite indie/British music. From time to time, depending on the inspiration, I make handmade jewellery with metals, recycled materials, and semi-precious stones.
What's your favourite scientific discovery?
The discovery of Graphene by Dr Andre Geim and Dr Konstantin Novoselov. Graphene is a revolutionary material with a great potential to further develop industry and research applications.
I imagine they both said “Eureka!”
What's your favourite place that you've ever visited?
My favourite place is Marrakesh in Morocco! Colourful, evocative with thousands of years of culture and history!
What's something you want to do in the next year that you've never done before?
Rent a sailing boat and visit as many sunny and picturesque Aegean islands as possible! Even though I have done it, each time is a different experience.
