The Job:
The Goodfellow Compliance Team are primarily responsible for ensuring that the business adheres to external regulations and internal controls. The team also enables the business to navigate through complex regulations and unlock opportunities by applying their knowledge and offering their guidance with respect to international trade, products and other regulatory areas.
Trade and Customs Compliance
- Provide proactive and strategic trade and customs compliance support to the business as a subject matter expert.
- Manage functional data to ensure availability and control; for example Country of Origin data.
- Support the department with the application for Known Consignor and AEO status and ensure appropriate activity to maintain accreditations.
- Plan and lead the implementation of any necessary changes to procedures and processes to enable the use of appropriate International Trade Agreements. Oversight of potential international export options from US and China offices.
- Manage relationships with couriers and freight forwarders.
- Manage and host customs audits.
Product and Regulatory Compliance
- Provide guidance on the interpretation and understanding of regulations and regulatory material to ensure that they are applied correctly.
- Oversee product compliance requirements ensuring all hazardous and dangerous goods requirements are met.
- Act as the company’s Data Protection Officer ensuring that all policies, privacy notices, procedures and processes relating to data protection are implemented and fit for purpose. Report and investigate data breaches taking appropriate action to prevent breaches where possible.
Leadership / General
- Develop, present and implement a compliance strategy (trade and product) for the company including plans and budgets to enable the company to achieve its growth strategy.
- Ensure that all compliance procedures and processes are documented, reviewed and kept up-to-date in line with the company’s Quality system. Proactively identify any new procedures or approaches that would be beneficial to the company and present these to the Board of Directors.
- Ensure that the Compliance Helpdesk is working appropriately analysing the ticketing system and proactively addressing repeated requests or other areas for improvement. Escalation point for urgent or complex queries raised through the Compliance Helpdesk.
- Manage and develop any compliance related matters that occur during the acquisition and integration of acquired or merged organisations.
- Review and where appropriate negotiate contractual terms with suppliers or other external parties.
- Writing, reviewing and amending as needed Non-disclosure Agreements (NDAs) for the company.
Key Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of UK, US and EU export/ import laws and regulations.
- Operational experience in export/import operations and risk management.
- Excellent analytical, audit, organization skills including ability to collect, structure, analyse and communicate data.
- A pro-active self-starter who is able to work independently.
- Demonstrable experience of developing and managing a compliance function through a small team
